After moving twice (and I'm still not living in the area) here I am, back at Dr. Crandall's and Dr. Johnson's 5 years... later. I just had the most comprehensive exam ever with Dr. Johnson (Dr. Crandall is retired from clinical practice but is still very involved) I will happily travel the 3+ hours for their high quality of cosmetic dentistry. They make crowns RIGHT THERE ON SITE, not from a lab! They can and will match your natural teeth! People thought my real teeth were fake, and my crowns are real... Take that for what it's worth! 👍🏼read more
Dr. Johnson is a great dentist. I am afraid of pain and cringe at any injury I receive. Dr. Johnson and her staff put... me at ease from the moment I arrive. She has done extensive work on me including root canals, extractions, crowns, and an implant. I am 70 yrs old and was around prior to fluoride. Had many cavities as a child. As a result, many of those fillings have led to other problems. Dr. Johnson thankfully has found and repaired all of my issues without any pain. I am amazed when I go home and have no pain and have healed quickly. Thank you, Dr. Johnson and Hailey for all the great work you recently did on my extraction.
Wonderful office. the office staff is very receptive and friendly. Their positive attitudes made me feel as though I had been here many times before. Tiffany, my hygienist, was very thorough and gentle in her cleaning and explained what she was doing at each step. Dr. Johnson replaced an old crown that needed a root canal and was very gentle, professional and pain free. I was very impressed with the quality of her work and I have found my dental home.

South Hills Dental Arts have taken care of my dental needs for many years. From standard services like semi annual... cleaning all the way to dental implants.
I moved from this area to NY 2 years ago. Although I was able to find adequate standard dental care for regular services, when a major issues arose I called and made an appointment. Driving 8 hours and taking the 4 days off work was nothing compared to the trust I have in this practice. One of very few that have earned that level or trust.
Immaculate, compassionate, painless, the latest technology, experience, sharing best practices, kind, never rushed and artistry beyond the norm just touches the tip of the iceberg

I was disappointed in Dr. Daniel Finnegan & his staff at the Sewickley location of South Hills Dental Arts. I... experienced what I believe is medical malpractice and billing fraud & feel obligated to report on such.
After my initial appt, I was told to schedule a follow-up visit to discuss my treatment plan before moving ahead with any procedures. I thought this was a great idea. However, the day before the follow-up appt, the office called and canceled it, choosing to e-mail me the treatment plan instead.
The cost of treatment totaled over $2,000 (including six, 1-surface fillings, and what another dentist deemed were unnecessary procedures related to an extraction.) I noticed that none of the procedures, including fillings, were covered by my premium-level insurance.
This surprised me, so I called my provider & was told I did indeed have coverage. I relayed this to the office, and when I received a response, Leslie Hernandez complained that she had to spend 2 hours on the phone w/my insurance. Though she reduced the bill accordingly to include coverage for my fillings and extraction, the unnecessary procedures remained.
On the day of my visit, I explained that I would be declining the unnecessary procedures and only moving forward with what insurance covered, which would total out-of-pocket costs of approx. $100. This is when things took a quick and upsetting turn.
After Dr. Finnegan was told that I would be declining the additional procedures, he explained that the treatment plan was now incorrect. He stated:
(1) I need a root canal, which really surprised me, because that was never previously discussed.
(2) My cavities were no longer 1-surface fillings, and would be more expensive.
(3) He changed the nature of the extraction, from a simple extraction (a low-cost procedure, performed by dentists and covered by my insurance) to a surgical extraction (a costly procedure, performed only by oral surgeons, and not covered until my waiting period was over). Note that Dr. Finnegan is not an oral surgeon.
I was shocked, to say the least.
I felt pressured and bullied to accept these last minute changes. I also felt uncomfortable agreeing to new procedures of which I did not know the out-of-pocket cost. So, I voiced my concerns and asked if it were possible for the original treatment plan be carried out. They refused.
I was told the visit could not proceed until my insurance provider was called to inquire about the about billings for the new procedures, despite never having agreed to any changes. The staff member stood halfway in the exam room, halfway in the hallway, with my insurance representative on speaker phone, at a loud volume, as the entire office, and other patients heard my sensitive medical information broadcasted. I was mortified beyond belief.
As an aside, when I entered for my appointment, I overhead staff tell a departing patient that her bill was $350, who had to correct them on the actual amount, just $50.
The goals seems to be to bill for as much as possible, whether the procedures are necessary or not. If your insurance only covers part of the visit, you will be billed for the balance, and expected to pay the day of treatment.
If you choose to move forward with this office, BE DILIGENT, and do not feel pressured to agree with last minute changes, and always double check with your insurance provider beforehand; this office cannot be trusted and from my experience, appears to be allegedly engaging in fraudulent billing practices.

The practice in Crafton is very unresponsive to patients’ needs.
Don’t waste your time an money. If you don’t agree to... their treatment plan, they stop treating you. If you’re unhappy with how your dental work turns out, they will not correct it (i.e. if a crown doesn’t fit properly.)
But the worst aspect of this office is Dr. Johnson, who is very confrontational. I had asked to be scheduled with dentists other than her and was told that I could do that. Then at my next appointment, Dr. Johnson walked into the treatment room and smartly said, “I understand that you don’t like me. What don’t you like about me?” Another time when I indicated that I was feeling pain, she said, “You’re not feeling pain. You’re fine,” and kept working on me without more anesthetic. Is this the dentist that you want to be treated by?read more
