The In-Office Zoom Whitening Process

You’ll first meet with your dentist to examine the state of your overall oral health and discuss your smile whitening goals. If your dentist approves you for treatment, they’ll outline a plan to make your desired brightness possible.

Treatment Prep

Next, your dentist will prep you for the Zoom treatment. An expander will be placed in your mouth to keep your lips from coming into contact with the whitening solution. You’ll also be given glasses to protect your eyes during the procedure.

Your dentist will carefully apply the whitening solution to your teeth and activate it using a special light. Zoom whitening treatments typically take 45 minutes to 1 hour. Once treatment is complete, you’ll enjoy a beautiful smile that’s several shades whiter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the take-home teeth whitening process?

If teeth whitening is the best option to help you smile brighter, your dentist will take digital impressions of your teeth with an intraoral scanner. These impressions will be sent to a dental lab, where a set of custom whitening trays will be created for your teeth. Once your custom trays are ready, you’ll come back into our office to pick them up along with a set of instructions. Then, you’ll simply follow these instructions and whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home.

Am I a good candidate for teeth whitening?

Determining if you are a good candidate for teeth whitening depends on a variety of factors, including the state of your overall oral health, whether you have any dental restorations, and the cause of discoloration. Consulting with a dentist from South Hills Dental Arts is the best way to find out if teeth whitening is right for you. They can assess the full scope of your oral health and recommend a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve the bright, beautiful smile you desire.

How Do I Care For My Whitened Teeth?

Congratulations on your newly whitened teeth! To maintain their brightness and keep your smile looking its best, it's important to follow a few simple care instructions:

  • Practice Good Oral Hygiene: Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily. This helps remove plaque and prevent stains from building up on your teeth.
  • Avoid Staining Foods And Beverages: Certain foods and drinks can stain your teeth, undoing the effects of teeth whitening. Limit your consumption of coffee, tea, red wine, berries, and dark-colored sauces.
  • Visit Your Dentist Regularly: Regular dental check-ups and cleanings are essential for maintaining the health and appearance of your teeth. Your dentist can also provide touch-up whitening treatments if needed.

Remember, everyone's teeth are different, and individual results may vary. If you have any concerns or questions about caring for your whitened teeth, don't hesitate to reach out to your dentist for personalized advice and guidance.

Is At-Home Or In-Office Whitening Treatment Better?

Both at-home and in-office teeth whitening treatments can effectively brighten your smile, but they have some key differences.

At-home whitening kits typically include custom-made trays and whitening gel that you can use in the comfort of your own home. These kits are convenient and offer flexibility, allowing you to whiten your teeth at your own pace. However, they may take longer to achieve desired results compared to in-office treatments.

In-office whitening treatments, on the other hand, are performed by dentists and provide immediate and noticeable results. The dentist applies a high-concentration whitening gel to your teeth and activates it with a special light. This procedure is usually completed in a single visit, making it a popular choice for those looking for quick results.

The choice between at-home and in-office whitening depends on your preferences. If you're looking for convenience and are willing to wait for gradual results, an at-home kit may be right for you. However, if you want immediate whitening, an in-office treatment is the way to go. Consulting with your dentist will help determine the best option based on your specific goals.

Will My Teeth Be Sensitive After Treatment?

Teeth sensitivity is a common concern after teeth whitening, but it is typically temporary and should subside within a few days. The level of sensitivity can vary from person to person and may depend on factors such as the type of whitening treatment used, the concentration of the whitening agent, and individual tooth sensitivity.

During the whitening process, the whitening agents penetrate the enamel to remove stains and discoloration. This can temporarily increase tooth sensitivity, causing discomfort when consuming hot or cold foods and beverages.

To minimize sensitivity after teeth whitening, consider the following tips:

  • Use A Desensitizing Toothpaste: Switch to a toothpaste specifically designed for sensitive teeth. These toothpastes contain ingredients that help alleviate sensitivity and protect the teeth.
  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Reach for lukewarm or room temperature foods and drinks while your teeth are sensitive. Avoid consuming extremely hot or cold items until the sensitivity subsides.
  • Give It Time: Sensitivity should gradually diminish within a few days after the whitening treatment. If it persists or becomes unbearable, contact your dentist for further guidance.

It's important to note that teeth whitening treatments are generally safe when performed correctly. However, if you have pre-existing dental conditions or concerns, it's best to consult with your dentist before undergoing any whitening procedure.
